Physiotherapy for
CHRONIC Pain
Chronic pain can affect every aspect of daily life, including work, sleep, movement, and overall well-being.
Unlike acute injuries, chronic pain often persists for months or years and may involve complex physical and neurological factors.
At Flaman Physiotherapy, we provide physiotherapy programs designed to help patients manage chronic pain, restore mobility, and improve quality of life.
What Is Chronic Pain?
Chronic pain is typically defined as pain that lasts longer than three months or continues after an injury has healed.
It can occur due to previous injuries, ongoing medical conditions, or persistent changes in the body’s pain response.
Chronic pain may affect muscles, joints, nerves, and connective tissues.
Physiotherapy can help address these issues through movement-based rehabilitation and targeted treatment techniques.
Common Chronic Pain Conditions We Treat
Our physiotherapists help patients manage a wide range of chronic pain conditions.
These include chronic back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis-related pain, persistent muscle tension, post-injury pain, and chronic joint pain.
Each treatment program is customized to address the patient’s specific condition and symptoms.
How Physiotherapy Helps Chronic Pain
Manual Therapy
Our physiotherapists provide skilled hands-on biomechanical treatment, using their knowledge of anatomy to improve joint mobility and muscle extensibility. Chronic pain is a broad category and biomechanical techniques such as joint mobilization, traction, and distraction can be useful in relieving local painful areas. Restoration of motion through use of these techniques can also allow the chronic pain client to improve their mobility, which in itself can help relieve the pain in some cases.
Therapeutic Modalities
Our therapists utilize a variety of advanced modalities to enhance the effectiveness of their biomechanical techniques. Ultrasound and laser therapy for inflammation and swelling when it is present. TENS/EMS to desensitize an area and loosen tight muscle around the injured region. Acupuncture and Gunn IMS dry needling for pain relief and to restore normal motion to the affected area. Shockwave therapy to improve joint mobility and to reduce areas of calcified tendinosis where appropriate. Chronic pain is a very individualized issue, as every person tends to experience it differently. Having more tools at our disposal gives us more options to attempt to help you and your condition.
Movement-Based Rehabilitation / Mobility and Flexibility Training
Depending on the nature of the chronic pain, using gentle exercises based on movement patterns that allow a client to improve individual joint motion and overall functional motion can be very beneficial. These exercises typically require minimal or no equipment and only short durations to perform, helping prevent overuse exacerbations of the area.

Our therapists will work with you to help you find postures and positions that help prevent further exacerbation, and allow you to work, rest, and sleep more comfortably.
