One of the most common questions we get:

Is physiotherapy covered?

The answer depends on your situation—but we’ll break it down clearly so you know exactly what to expect before booking your appointment.

There was no way to safely deliver light energy into the body.

A Quick Note Before We Begin

2. Important Note on Care and Advice

Any information provided here is:

  • general in nature
  • meant to help guide your decision

Coverage can vary depending on:

  • your insurance provider
  • your plan details
  • your claim type

  •  When in doubt, reach out—we’re happy to help clarify.

Is Physiotherapy Covered by the Saskatchewan Government?

In Saskatchewan, physiotherapy services at private clinics (like ours) are not covered by the provincial government.

When Is It Covered?

Physiotherapy may be covered through the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) if:

  • you are currently hospitalized
  • you qualify under specific programs
  • you are recovering from certain surgeries (e.g., hip or knee replacement)

Outside of these situations, physiotherapy is typically accessed through private clinics.

How Most People Access Physiotherapy Coverage

Many patients use third-party insurance plans, including:

  • workplace benefits
  • extended health plans
  • personal insurance policies

What These Plans Typically Cover

Most plans include:

  • a set annual amount for physiotherapy
  • coverage per visit or percentage coverage
  • requirements for receipts or direct billing

Coverage varies—so it’s always worth checking your plan details.

Do We Offer Direct Billing?

Yes.

At Flaman Physiotherapy, we can directly bill many insurance providers, which means:

  • less out-of-pocket payment upfront
  • reduced paperwork for you
  • faster processing

How Direct Billing Works

  • You provide your insurance information
  • We submit the claim on your behalf
  • You pay any remaining balance (if applicable)

  • Not all plans support direct billing—but many do.
  • If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll check for you.

What If My Insurance Doesn’t Cover Everything?

If your plan:

  • does not allow direct billing
  • has limited coverage
  • or has been fully used

You can still:

  • pay upfront
  • receive a receipt
  • submit it to your provider for reimbursement

  • We’ll always provide the documentation you need.

What About Workplace Injuries (WCB)?

  • If you’ve been injured at work, your treatment may be covered under the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB).

How We Help

We can:

  • guide you through the claim process
  • submit reports to WCB
  • bill directly for approved treatment

  • The key is reporting the injury properly and early.

What About Motor Vehicle Accidents (SGI)?

If your injury is related to a motor vehicle accident, treatment may be covered under SGI (Saskatchewan Government Insurance)

What You Need to Do

  • report the accident
  • open a claim
  • receive approval for treatment

How We Support You

We can:

  • help guide you through the process
  • Provide SGI with appropriate reports
  • bill SGI directly when approved

Do You Need a Doctor’s Referral?

In most cases:

👉 No referral is required to see a physiotherapist.

When a Referral May Be Needed

Some insurance plans:

  • require a doctor’s referral
  • or provide better coverage with one

It’s best to check your specific plan.

How Much Does Physiotherapy Cost?

Costs can vary depending on:

  • type of assessment
  • length of treatment
  • services used (such as use of disposable needles with acupuncture and IMS)
  • Our basic rate is $140 for a one hour assessment, and $90 for 30 minute follow up appointments.

Proper treatment can reduce:

  • recovery time
  • repeat injuries
  • long-term costs

Why Understanding Coverage Matters

Many people delay treatment because they are unsure about:

  • cost
  • coverage
  • insurance

The Risk of Waiting

Delaying care can lead to:

  • worsening symptoms
  • longer recovery
  • chronic issues

👉 In many cases, early treatment is more cost-effective in the long run.
